Do you hear that?! The gentle sound of maracas shaking?!
It’s almost the most wonderful time of the year – CINCO DE MAYO!!!!!
Real talk: Since college, I’ve introduced myself as “Maria.” I don’t know where the desire to be Mexican/Spanish stems from but it is an INTENSE feeling I’ve always had. I even use to dye my hair straight black and lay in the tanning bed for daysss trying to achieve believable Mexican-ness.
So when Opry Mills asked if I wanted to come on out for an evening of margarita drinking I was like SI. SI, GRACIAS.
I’d actually never been out to Opry Mills before (mostly because I have a deep fear of artificial mall lighting) but me and my senoritas had a hell of a time. There were SO MANY OPTIONS for dining. Literally, something for everyone.
We started off the night at a restaurant that already has a very special place in my heart- Chuys. (I live and breath for the jalapeño ranch sauce.)
I decided to go full throttle into the night and got myself a Chuy’s Brew – a frozen margarita topped with a Coronita. #YOLO
Can we talk about how awesome the floors are?! Seriously, the walls/floors/decor at this location was on point. Which I know sounds ridiculous but for a girl who loves, loves, LOVES color, this place was a dream come true.
Next up we tried one of their “Texas Martinis.” The Spicy Cucumber was a HUGE, unexpected hit! It was light, delicious and boozy- not only perfect for Cinco but also something I could totally throw back* all summer long.
*No, I did not shoot the whole martini like I was taking a shot. But it did go down really, really smooth. =)
Obviosuly, I couldn’t go to Chuy’s and NOT get the nacho bar. It’s free, y’all.
And dangerous. From 4:00-7:00, get all the free chips, meat, queso, beans, and salsa you want. Bless you, Chuy’s, and your big ole nacho-loving heart.
Next up we went somewhere I haven’t been in years. The one . . . the only . . .
I have to admit, with all the amazing local Nashville restaurants, I usually try and steer clear of chains (Except Chuy’s. Duh.). But I was pleasantly surprised at our experience and it was nice to be back at the place that has forever emblazoned the humble potato skin as the perfect bite size appetizer in my heart.
BONUS- the calorie count for every drink is included. Because, obviously, this blog is all about documenting the health conscious decisions I make.
SHE’S GOT JOKES.
But seriously, I do appreciate the calorie count because Lord knows how adult beverages can add up. Can I get an Amen!
Obviously the calorie counts didn’t stop us from ordering ALL. THE DRINKS. The shaker 4th from the left and the glass with cotton candy were mine. I got the Pink Punk Martini – vodka, cranberry and pineapple juice, fresh lime and . . .COTTON CANDY!
Yup, I’m that girl. And by that girl, I mean the girl who is easily sold on anything that sounds utterly ridiculous but makes one hell of a presentation.
While the Pink Punk wasn’t my favorite cocktail of all time, I did try some of their many sangria options and they were all delightful. So delightful, in fact, that I may try and do a copy cat recipe here soon.
Here’s the Pink Punk after I poured my shaker over the cotton candy – the candy completely dissolved, just like magic! Anyone who loves sweets and/or cocktails that make you feel like a mad scientist, this is for you.
Next up – the OG of arcade sports bars (or atleast as far as I know) – Dave and Buster’s.
I’ve heard a lot about Dave & Buster’s over the years. Mostly, men talking smack (yes I just said “smack”) about how they whipped each other in air hockey or hoops or some weird ghostbusters game. But I also got some intel from a very fancy East Nashville restaurant manager that D&B has the best piña coladas of all time.
So, obviously, we had to find out for ourselves.
I’ll tell you what, aside from celebrating Cinco de Mayo, I don’t think anything makes a couple gals want to throw back tequila more than some very friendly wagers over who can beat who in Skeeball.
Um, hello. If you know me at all, then you know I’m
extremely mildly obsessed with prosecco. Really, I love all the bubbles . . . champagne, prosecco, cava, etc. But lately, prosecco has had my undivided attention. So when I saw that beautiful, completely ridiculous drink (that you see above) on the menu, my little heart skipped a beat. It called to me and I had to have it – the Black Raspberry Proseccorita.
Long name, surprisingly delicious drink, and definitely my favorite drink of the night!
Hope y’all enjoyed some of our snippets from our boozy Opry Mills bar crawl and thank y’all for taking a peak. I hope your Cinco de Mayo is full of two-handed fun (tequila with a pina colada chaser being my preference ;)). Thanks to Opry Mills and all the participating restaurants for being lovely hosts and showing us a a good time. Next time y’all want to be shop and sip, you know who to call!
